8 tips to having a great time in Adelaide

One of the biggest challenges couples face can be trying to come up with interesting things to do together.

It’s such a common problem that I now have a number of go-to date ideas that are fun, unique and don’t break the bank.

Here is my list of 21 activities you can do on your next date night in Adelaide. Some are fairly low stress, while others are more adventurous – but they’re all guaranteed to make for an unforgettable evening!

  1. Be spontaneous

Grab her by the hand and pull her out of bed without warning one morning after breakfast. Dragging her outside, take her on an impromptu adventure around town… whether it’s buying ice cream down at the wharf, watching street performers in Elder Park or just walking around the Botanical Gardens.

  1. Take her on a scenic drive

Pack a picnic and spend an afternoon exploring the trails of Belair National Park or Sturt Gorge Recreation park. It can be as simple as driving up to Hahndorf for lunch, visiting Ingham’s chocolate factory, or going wine tasting at LobethalBierhaus – anything that gets you both out of town and gives you ample time to talk to each other.

  1. Visit local bars & pubs

South Australia is home to a burgeoning craft beer scene . Grab a six pack from one of numerous breweries across the city and enjoy it on a picnic blanket in the park – just make sure to stay away from glass containers!

  1. Sample local foods

No matter how many times I visit Adelaide, one of my favourite things to do is try out new restaurants and cafés with my wife . So here are a few ideas:

  1. Grab an early dinner at Vintaged at the Hilton , which offers some of the best views in town for your date night, or stick around to watch the sunset while you share a bottle of wine.
  1. For those who prefer watching sport over nature, check out the once-a-week “Hospitality Sunday” events at Port Dock where pubs and eateries set up sample stalls and offer special deals just for pub-goers.
  1. Get a taste of Chinatown by strolling down Grote Street, stopping in for a meal at one of the many restaurants on offer and watching people go about their daily lives outside of your typical tourist bubble.
  1. Hit the arcade

Believe it or not there are still arcades out there with old-style games you can play . Head to Timezone (Rundle Mall) if you want to see what all the fuss is about, or try something new like VR at Escape Room Adelaide (Gouger St).

  1. Go for an art walk

There’s always somewhere interesting to explore when Adelaide hosts its monthly Second Sunday events , which means free access to galleries and workshops, as well as numerous other free events for those who want to experience Adelaide’s arts scene.

  1. Take a cooking class together

Cooking is actually surprisingly relaxing – especially if you learn a few techniques first . One of my favourite things about living in Europe was all the amazing little cafes and restaurants where locals regularly took cooking classes, so I’m hoping it can become part of our culture here too.

  1. Go on a road trip

South Australia is home to some beautiful scenery , including plenty of wineries that offer tours and tastings out in the countryside. There are also lots of nearby beaches that regularly show up on “best beaches” lists from travel agencies .So grab your swimsuits and take your date on an adventure to the South Coast.
